PRE & POST TREATMENT CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Injectables

Pre-Procedure Instructions:
DO NOT WEAR MAKEUP or BE PREPARED TO REMOVE IT! Makeup harbors bacteria and if it is not removed prior to injection, it may increase risk of infection. We attempt to remove makeup thoroughly, but it is safer not to wear any.

  • Avoid alcohol, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Advil, fish oil, St. John’s Wort, oral Vitamin E, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) in the 24 hours prior to your treatment as they may promote the risk of bruising and bleeding in the injection area.
  • If you are currently taking anti-coagulation medications (Warfarin, Coumadin, Heparin, Lovenox, Enoxaparin, Lepirudin, Refludan, Ticlopidine Ticlid, Clopidogrel, Plavix, Tirofiban, Aggrastat, Eptifibatide, Integrilin), discuss the use of these medications with your healthcare provider prior to your treatment. You may or may not be a candidate for treatment with cosmetic dermal fillers.
  • If you are prone to cold sores (oral herpes simplex), take your prescribed medication (Famvir, Famciclovir, Valtrex, Valacyclovir, Acyclovir) as prescribed in the 24 hours prior to your treatment.

Post-Procedure Instructions & At-Home Recommendations:
Please observe the following practices after treatment with cosmetic dermal fillers:

  • Avoid applying pressure or touching the treated area for six (6) hours after the procedure. The area can then be gently washed with a cleanser and water. You may resume makeup use at this time.
  • Avoid vigorous scrubs, exfoliation, or facial treatment in the area of treatment for 72 hours.
  • If signs and symptoms of infection develop and persist (warmth at the site of injection, discharge/pus, pain/discomfort) or if you develop a fever, please contact Grace Medical Aesthetics so our staff may assist you.
  • Oral or topical Arnica Montana, an herbal supplement, may help with reducing bruising caused by cosmetic treatments. DO NOT take Arnica Montana if you have liver or kidney problems.
  • For pain/discomfort, use cool packs, and over-the-counter analgesics (Acetaminophen, Tylenol). Severe pain should be reported to Grace Medical Aesthetics immediately.
  • Avoid manipulation of the area following the injection unless specifically instructed otherwise by your healthcare practitioner.

IF YOU WERE TREATED WITH SCULPTRA, REMEMBER TO MASSAGE THE TREATED AREA FOR 5 MINUTES AT A TIME, 5 TIMES PER DAY, FOR 5 DAYS TO PREVENT NODULES FROM FORMING. (5/5/5)

IT IS NORMAL TO EXPERIENCE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Swelling will begin within 1-2 hours of treatment and should resolve within 48-72 hours.
  • Undereyes and lips will swell significantly – this is normal and can be improved by sleeping on some extra pillows and drinking a moderate amount of water. Avoid particularly salty foods during this time as it may exacerbate undereye swelling. Lips can swell up to 3 times their normal size and is not an indicator of an allergy.
  • Aching discomfort is common, especially in the lips, cheeks, and chin. Tylenol (NOT Advil) and some cool compresses will help discomfort.

If you were treated with Dysport, Botox, or Xeomin (wrinkle relaxers):

  • Bruising in the area injected is normal and often expected, especially if treated around the eyes. Bruising can last up to several weeks. Using/taking Arnica may help diminish bruising.
  • It may take up to 7 days for Dysport and up to 14 days for Botox to take full effect.
  • A follow-up visit at 10 days to 2 weeks is suggested to assess results for subsequent treatments, particularly if you are a first time client. If full correction is not achieved, you may need to purchase additional Botox/Dysport/Xeomin for injection. Asymmetry is corrected free of charge.
  • Re-treatment is typically needed at 4 months.
  • If you have had your horizontal forehead lines treated and you feel as though your eyebrows are too heavy, the treatment may not be optimal for you or we may need to adjust your dose – please call the office so that we can accurately update your chart for future visits.
  • Regular injections usually yield a longer lasting Dysport/Botox result.
  • If your upper lip was treated, you may not be able to drink through a straw, whistle, or enunciate some words for approximately 2 weeks.

Please call the office immediately at (860) 578-4722 for the following:

  • Severe pain at the sight of injection.
  • Swelling, redness, or drainage that starts after 48 hours.
  • Blanching (whitening) of an area that was injected.
  • Assymetry of lip or “bubbles” in the lip after 2 weeks following filler.

CoolSculpting

What to expect before Coolsculpting:

  • Have a complimentary consultation and discuss all options, pricing, and paper work.
  • Wear comfortable clothing that you can go home in or bring comfortable clothing with you that you can change into before treatment.
  • Bring a compression garment with you to use right after treatment if discussed in your consultation.

What to expect during CoolSculpting:

  • CoolSculpting is a non-surgical procedure that may take from one to several hours, depending on your treatment plan.
  • No general/topical anesthesia or pain medication is required or administered.
  • As the procedure is initiated, vacuum pressure draws tissue into an applicator cup. The vacuum pressure may cause sensations of deep pulling, tugging and pinching in the area being treated.
  • You also may experience intense stinging, tingling, aching, or cramping. These sensations generally subside as the area becomes numb (within minutes).

What to expect immediately after CoolSculpting:

  • Immediately after the procedure, your treated area may look or feel stiff and transient blanching (temporary whitening of the skin) may occur.
  • You may feel a sense of nausea or dizziness as your body naturally warms and sensation returns to your treatment area. These are normal reactions that typically resolve within minutes.
  • The treated area may be red for up to a few hours after the applicator is removed. This is an expected but temporary effect after CoolSculpting.
  • Bruising, swelling and tenderness can occur in the treated area. This typically resolves within a week or two.
  • Nausea and tingling, stinging, and cramping in the treatment area are often reported on treatment day.
  • You may feel a temporary dulling of sensation in the treated area. This is normal and typically resolves within a few hours, but may last for several weeks after your procedure.
  • There typically is minimal recovery time after CoolSculpting. Most patients are able to return to their daily routine immediately after the procedure.

What to expect the first few days and weeks after CoolSculpting:

  • It is common for the treated area to feel bloated and look swollen in the first few days and weeks after CoolSculpting.
  • You may experience a temporary dulling of sensation that can last for several weeks.
  • At some point within the first two weeks following the procedure, you may experience one or more of the following sensations: deep itching, tingling, numbness, tenderness to the touch, pain in the treated area, strong cramping, diarrhea, muscle spasms, aching, and/or soreness. Consult Grace Medical Aesthetics if these conditions persist beyond two weeks or worsen over time.
  • Though uncommon, you may experience hyperpgimentation (darkening of the skin) in the treated area within the first week or weeks following your CoolSculpting treatment. This may last up to a year, but may be treatable to lessen the dark appearance. If you notice a darkening of the treated area, contact Grace Medical Aesthetics immediately to assess the next steps.
  • Following the procedure, a gradual reduction in the thickness of the fat layer will take place. You may start to see changes as early as three weeks after CoolSculpting and you will experience the most dramatic results after one to three months. Your body will continue naturally to process the injured fat cells from your body for approximately four months after your procedure.

Next steps:

  • Weight gain will prevent you from appreciating your full results. Maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine after your procedure can help prevent this.
  • If desired, schedule a follow-up assessment to review your clinical results 12 weeks after your treatment to discuss the option of additional treatments to achieve desired fat reduction.

Please call us at (860) 578-4722 if your symptoms appear to worsen or last longer than two weeks.

Laser Hair Removal

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU ARE TREATED:

  • You should avoid active sun exposure or self-tanners to the treated area for approximately 2 weeks prior to the treatment.
  • Shave the area that you want to treat. Do not tweeze, wax, or use depilatories in the area you’re looking to treat for 4 weeks prior to treatment, as it will prevent the best results.
  • Membership includes a once monthly treatment.
  • Tell your treatment provider if you are pregnant, nursing, or trying to become pregnant or if you have started taking any new prescriptions.
  • Tell your treatment provider if you are currently taking erythromycin, vancomycin, gentamicin, doxycycline, tetracycline, minocycline, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, ofloxacin, or similar medications.

LHR Post Treatment Instructions:
Patient response can vary after a hair reduction treatment. Erythema (redness) and edema (swelling) around the hair follicles in the treated area are usually noted within a few minutes after the completion of the procedure and typically resolve completely within 24-48 hours. A sun burn sensation in the area treated is also normal and expected.

The treated area must be treated with care. BE GENTLE! Do not scratch or pick at your skin.

  • Avoid the following for the first 4 hours and until sensitivity has subsided:
    • Use of scented lotions or soaps, deodorants, exfoliant creams (Retin-A, glycolic/salicylic and alpha-hydroxy acids), acne creams or gels, loofa sponges, and aggressive scrubbing.
    • Hot or cold water- wash with tepid water.
    • Swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/chlorine.
    • Activities that cause excessive perspiration.
    • Avoid hot tubs, Jacuzzi tubs, saunas, hot yoga, and/or vigorous exercise.
  • A cold compress can be used to provide comfort if the treated area is especially warm. This is typically only needed within the first 12 hours after the treatment.
  • Vitamin E or Aloe Vera aplied to the treatment area may provide a soothing effect. In the unusual case of crusting of the skin or a blister in the treated area, apply an antibiotic ointment twice a day to the affected areas. Do not pick at these areas as this may result in infection or scarring. Keep the affected area moist and avoid direct sunlight.
  • If an antiviral medication, such as Valtrex, has been prescribed for you, continue to take as directed.
  • In rare cases, hives have been reported after hair reduction treatments. If you experience an irritated raised rash after the treatment, contact Grace Medical Aesthetics at (860) 578-4722. Benadryl may be taken to help relieve the itchiness.
  • Do not use the following hair removal methods or products on the treated area during the course of your laser treatments: tweezing, waxing, and depilatories, as it will prevent you from achieving your best results; you may shave. Strictly avoid any sun exposure, including tanning beds, to the treated area for a minimum of 14 days after the procedure. The treated area is more prone to sunburn and pigmentation change. Keep the area covered and use a subscreen with a protection factor of 30+. Delayed blistering secondary to sun exposure has been noted up to 72 hours post treatment. Hair may take up to 4 weeks, or in some cases, as little as a few days, to fall out following treatment. Do not be alarmed if hairs appear to be “growing” during this time.
  • Subsequent treatments are based upon your clinician’s recommendation and are typically 4-6 weeks apart depending on the area being treated. The number of treatments necessary will depend on the body location, the amount of hair present, the character the hair, and your skin type.

Ultherapy

Patients with any of the following medical conditions are not candidates for Ultherapy:

  • Psoriasis on the face or head
  • Epilepsy
  • Bells Palsy
  • Pregnancy
  • Cystic acne in treatment area
  • Open lesions in treatment area
  • Metal implants or stents in treatment area. (not including dental work)

Patients with the following medical conditions should take additional precautions. Please discuss with your Grace Medical Aesthetic nurse:

  • Blood disorders
  • History of cold sores
  • Auto-immune diseases

Prepare for your treatment:

  • You may experience mild, momentary discomfort. Taking 800 mg of Ibuprofen 30 minutes before treatment may reduce any sensitivity.
  • Skin must be fully healed from any prior laser treatment or chemical peel before receiving Ultherapy.

Avoid these products and/or procedures before your treatment:

  • Patients should not receive Dysport, Botox, or Xeomin (wrinkle relaxers) two weeks before or two weeks after an Ultherapy treatment.
  • Please advise your Ultherapy nurse if you have recieved a dermal filler within the past 6 months. Please postpone any upcoming dermal filler treatments until after your Ultherapy treatment.

After your Ultherapy treatment:

  • You may resume your regular activities.
  • A skin care regimen containing anti-oxidants, growth factors, retinols, and broad spectrum SPF is recommended.
  • Protect your treatment and investment by avoiding excessive sun exposure and smoking, as these cause additional aging in the skin and the need for additional treatments may be required.

Please call us if you have any questions.

Skincare & Laser Facials

IPL PRE CARE:

  • Avoid sun exposure for 1 to 3 weeks prior to treatment and use SPF 30 daily to ensure coverage against UVB and UBA rays.
  • Do not use self-tanning products for 1 to 3 weeks prior to and/or post treatment.

  • Avoid, if possible, Ibuprofen and non-steriodal anti-inflammatories for 3 days prior to and/or post treatment.
  • Longevity of Botox and fillers done any time within 6 months prior to face treatment may be affected. Botox and/or fillers within 2 weeks prior to IPL is not recommended.

IPL POST CARE:

  • You may experience a sunburned sensation immediately following treatment. Although rare, some light swelling is possible.
  • Darkening of freckles and other areas is normal. If this occurs, do not pick or exfoliate the areas. They will flake off or lighten on their own over the next week if on the face and over the next several weeks if on the body.
  • If you experience a burn, gently cleanse the area and use hydrocortisone cream on the area several times a day for the next week. If the mark opens, also use antibiotic ointment over the hydrocortisone cream. Please notify Grace Medical Aesthetics at (860) 578-4722 immediately of any burns.

1540 PRE CARE:
Beginning 2 weeks prior to treatment:

  • Avoid sun-exposure or tanning beds.
  • Discontinue use of topical exfoliating agents. (Glycolics/ Alpha or Beta-hydroxy acids)
  • Discontinue retinoid medications e.g. Retinol, Tretinoin (Retin-A/ Atralin), Adapalene (Differin), Tazarotene (Tazorac), etc. and OTC anti-aging products contain retinol or retinaldehyde.

    • After treatment, you may return to work or usual activities as long as you follow post-treatment guidelines provided below.

1540 POST CARE:

  • Avoid heat and cool the skin during first day or treatment. Application of cool gel packs and appropriate topical creams (if directed) immediately following treatment can help alleviate post treatment itchiness and tingling that may occur.
    • As healing occurs, avoid injury, heat, and sun exposure for at least two weeks.
    • Use covered or wrapped icepack and use only 10-15 minutes intervals.
    • Edema (swelling), and sometimes blanching (white appearance), is expected immediately post treatment and generally resolves within 24-48 hours. It may last up to 3-5 days in some clients.
    • Sleeping with your head slightly elevated will help reduce likelihood of puffiness.
  • SPF 30 or higher containing UVA/UVB protection with sun blockers such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are recommended up to 6 months following last treatment.
  • Gentle cleansing and use of non-irritating cosmetics are permitted after treatment (as directed by physician).
  • Those prone to acne outbreaks should avoid heavy makeup or moisturizers for 24 hours post treatment. Plan on using mineral makeup.
  • Following a more aggressive treatment, it may be helpful to use some topical moisturizer or therapy (if directed) on the skin during the healing process to help minimize trans-epidermal water loss to reduce dryness or crusting.
  • To help remove debris and bronzing of skin that can appear 1 to 4 days after treatment, soak treated areas for 5 – 15 minutes with wet wash cloth, and then gently remove debris. Do not pick at or scrub the treated areas as this can result in scarring.
  • It is suggested that retinoids (Retinol, Retin-A, Atralin, etc.) be discontinued 1-2 weeks prior to the initial treatment and throughout the course of treatment. The use of retinoids during the treatment course may result in undesirable side effects and prolonged healing.

1540 POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS:

  • A low risk of prolonged itching, redness, and blistering.
  • A risk of hyperpigmentation (dark pigment), hypopigmentation (light pigment), burns, bruising, or blistering may occur, some of which may result in scarring.
  • Transient erythema (redness) or edema (swelling) immediately after treatment.
  • Bronzing, which is brown debris on the surface of the skin, may develop a few days post treatment. This is a desirable clinical end-point and will naturally exfoliate off over the next 14 days.
  • Risk of infection following treatment, potentially resulting in side effects mentioned above.
  • Acne breakouts. (Avoid heavy make-ups and using recommended products will reduce this risk).
  • Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH).
  • Social downtime.

  • Do not participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration.
  • Do not use loofahs or other means of exfoliation.
  • Do not direct a hair dryer onto the treated area.
  • Do not apply ice or ice water to the treated area.

General guidelines:

  • After receiving a chemical peel, the skin may look and feel like a mild windburn for the next 2 or 3 days. After 48 hours, a slight flaking may occur for 3 to 5 days which can easily be controlled with moisturizers.
  • It is recommended that makeup not be applied the day of treatment, as it is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight.
  • To minimize side effects and maximize results, use the post procedure solution for 3 to 5 days or until flaking has resolved.
  • Moisturizer should be applied at least twice a day but can be applied more frequently for hydration and to decrease the appearance of flaking.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. An SPF of at least 30 must be used daily.
  • Do not go to a tanning bed for at least two weeks post procedure. This practice should be discontinued due to increased risk of skin cancer and signs of aging.
  • Do not pick or pull on any loosening skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.

Do not have any other facial treatment for at least one week after your peel. You may resume the regular use of retinoids, alpha-hydroxy acid, beta hydroxy acid, vitamin c or bleaching creams ONLY after peeling process is complete.

THE PERFECT PEEL POST CARE:
The day of the peel application is considered “Day 1”. The peel solution should remain on the treated areas for at least 6 hours. During the first 6 hours, DO NOT wash, touch, rub or apply make-up to the treated areas.

  • Avoid excessive sweating, sauna, or heavy exercise during peel process.

DAY 3-6
Peeling generally begins on Day 3.

  • After peeling begins apply The Perfect Derma Moisturizer (included in the Patient Home Care Kit) to the treated areas 2-3 times a day to control the peeling and relieve the tightness. This moisturizer should be used for one week for Caucasian patients and two weeks for Asian, Hispanic and African American patients. • Immediate pinpoint bleeding may occur, which will resolve within 10 minutes.
  • Minor redness, swelling, and pinpoint bruising may occur for 1-2 days.
  • Minor peeling and flakiness may occur after a few days. Do not pick at the loose skin.
  • Call Grace Medical Aesthetics at (860) 578-4722 if you experience excessive redness, swelling, pain, or drainage as they might indicate an infection.

  • Discontinue use of any active ingredients (retin-a, AHA, salicylic acid, etc) products for 2-3 days post procedure.
  • Use hydrating and reparative products. Products rich in soothing and healing ingredients are best to encourage new, healthy cell growth. Peptides, antioxidants, stem cells, hyaluronic acid, Vitamin A, C, and E, and growth factors work very well.

Tattoo Removal

The tattoo removal laser treatment may create a superficial burn wound. Some clients may experience bruising or swelling. There is immediate whitening of the treated area, which usually lasts for several minutes. Many clients then develop blisters, crusts, or scabs within 12-72 hours, which may last for 1-2 weeks or more. Do not pick or peel any scabs, as this puts you at risk for infection and scarring. The treated areas may be pink or pale after the scab separates. Loss of skin pigment in the treated area is common, and is usually temporary. Healing is usually complete by 6-8 weeks.

POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Keep the treated area clean and dry while it is healing. Clean the area gently with soap and water and gently pat the area dry. You may apply a thin coating of antibiotic ointment up to three times a day while the area is healing if you keep the area covered with a sterile dressing.
  • You may apply cool compresses as necessary for 24 hours after the laser treatment to help reduce discomfort and inflammation. You may take Tylenol, but avoid aspirin, as it can increase the risk of bruising and/or bleeding.
  • Do not pick at the scab or allow the skin to become scraped, as this may result in infection and scarring. Shaving should be avoided in the treated area until it is completely healed.
  • Do not wear makeup or any cream or medication unless recommended by our office for 48 hours.
  • Wear a sunblock with an SPF of 25 or higher over the area for 3 months following the treatment.
  • If the area looks infected (honey colored crusting and oozing or spreading redness), if you experience any unusual discomfort or bleeding, if any other complications develop, or if you have any questions or concerns, contact Grace Medical Aesthetics at (860) 578-4722 immediately. Of course, if you have any extreme reaction (such as moderate to severe facial swelling, moderate to severe rash, any difficulty breathing, or you are in any distress) call 911 and go to the emergency department.

  • If you color your hair, it is recommended that you color your hair a few days before your procedure. After the procedure, you must wait 6-8 weeks before you can color your hair again and a semi- permanent color should be used instead of a permanent hair color that may cause damage to your new grafts. Permanent hair color can be used 3 months post op.
  • Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like. We want you to be well informed.

During the procedure:

  • You may bring your own audiobooks or music as long as you have wireless earbuds for listening. Please do not bring a laptop or work that requires you to write, as you cannot move your head during the procedure. Grace Medical Aesthetics can provide you with access to Netflix, Hulu, etc.
  • At any time during the procedure you may get up for breaks, such as restroom breaks or a brief stretch.
  • We will break for lunch if your procedure is scheduled for the entire day. Please discuss lunch arrangements with the practice staff prior to your procedure.

After the procedure:

  • You will be given all required prescriptions, medications and detailed post-op instructions. Please follow those instructions carefully.
  • Arrange for a ride/Uber/Taxi to drive you home.
  • Should you have any questions concerning any aspect of your procedure, please call/text Jessica’s direct line at (860) 556-1635
  • 48 hour bandage removal will be done in office.

POST-OP INSTRUCTIONS

24-48 Hours Post-Op:
Avoid all contact to donor site and newly implanted grafts.

  • No washing scalp or full stream water pressure from shower head on newly implanted grafts.
  • No alcohol.
  • Consult with your physician before resuming any medications, including vitamins and herbal supplements.
  • No ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin), Aleve, aspirin, or blood thinners of any kind. Speak with your physician to see if a prescription strength medicine is needed.
  • Do NOT remove pressure bandage from back of scalp. 48 hours is the best time to remove the bandages and will be done in the Grace Medical Aesthetics office.
  • No hats, caps, bandanas, or beanies for two (2) days.
  • No activities that cause excessive sweating such as running, weight lifting, or intense workouts for the first 14 days.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure to grafts for the first 14 days. After 14 days, SPF must be applied for 3 months to treated area.
  • Ice forehead & eyes about 1 inch below hair line, do not ice implanted area.
  • Once bandage is removed after 48 hours of implants, gentle massage back (donor site) with baby shampoo, allow gentle rinse with cup to implant site, avoid direct water to implants. Apply thin layer of Bacitracin to back (donor site).

For Sleep:
Avoid side/stomach sleeping. You may use an airplane pillow for more comfort. By following the directions below, you will control swelling in the forehead/brow region:

Frontal/Temporal Hairline Restoration:

  • Sleep in an elevated position for 2 nights following a procedure. It is best to use 3 pillows under your upper body or sleep in a recliner.

Crown Restoration:

  • Sleep with a neck pillow or rolled up towel under your neck.

For Minor Bleeding:
In occasional instances, minor bleeding may occur from the transplant site and/or donor area.

  • To control bleeding, apply gentle, but firm pressure on the area for 5-10 seconds with a dampened gauze pad. Press only, do NOT rub.

* If excessive bleeding occurs anywhere on the scalp and cannot be stopped by firm pressure for greater than 20 minutes, proceed to the nearest ER or Urgent Care. Take your Post-Op instructions with you. Please contact Jessica at (860) 556-1635. *

After 48 Hours Post-Op:
The donor site should now be closed up and healing. You will have just had your bandage removed by Grace Medical Aesthetics.

  • You may gently wash your entire scalp including the sides and back of your head by using Johnson and Johnson Baby Shampoo, and rinsing it by gently pouring luke warm (NOT hot) water from a cup over your scalp.
  • Wear button down shirts to avoid touching head.
  • Try and avoid rubbing head on car seat while driving.
  • Avoid direct water pressure on newly implanted grafts.
  • You may massage the donor site, but do NOT touch the recipient area with your fingers for 14 days post op as this may cause the grafts to dislodge. After 14 days you may begin to wash your hair normally.
  • Do NOT use any hair products NOT recommended to you by your physician for the first 14 days. Just baby shampoo for two (2) weeks, then continue regular routine.
  • As your scalp begins to heal, you will start to see scabbing on the donor and newly implanted graft site. This is normal. Do not pick or remove the scabs.
  • A very loose fitting hat/cap that does not come in contact with the grafts may be worn.
  • After bandages are removed, apply Bacitracin ointment over the donor area at least 3 times a day for the next 3-4 days to keep it moist.
  • In between Bacitracin use, CopperK Scalp Cream should be gently dabbed on the donor site to help heal scabs.

72 Hours Post-Op:
Swelling is a part of the healing process and typically occurs on day 2 or 3 post-op. It usually disappears in 5-7 days.

  • Do NOT apply ice directly to graft area.
  • For swelling around eyes and forehead, apply ice pack to eyebrow area and below.
  • Do NOT use hot compresses.

2 Weeks Post-Op:
After 2 weeks, or once the scabs have fallen off:

  • Minor workouts can be added into your daily regimen.
  • You may use spray sunscreen or an adjustable fitted hat, if you will be out in the sun for more than 30 minutes.
  • Check with your physician before resuming Rogaine 5% foam (typically 1 month). Propecia can continue to be used.

Additional Information:
Scabbing or itching at donor and transplant site:

  • Do NOT PICK or SCRATCH at these scabs as this can endanger healing and could cause scarring or infection.
  • Scabs will naturally fall off within 2 weeks and may contain small hairs. Do NOT be alarmed as this is normal. The hair bulb remains in the skin.
  • Saline spray/Sodium Chloride will reduce discomfort, itching and inflammation. This can be used as needed, up to 2 times a day for 2 weeks post op to keep the scabs moist.
  • To reduce itching, you may also use a diluted saline solution by pouring the solution into a spray bottle. Spray onto irritated area up to 2 times a day for 2 weeks to keep the scabs moist.
    • It is recommended to use the diluted saline solution on the irritated area immediately after the shower.

Hair Coloring:

  • You must wait 6-8 weeks before you can dye your hair. It is recommended that you color with semi-permanent dye as to not damage your grafts.
  • Hair cuts can be done 14 days after surgery.
